Bonnie Brae Tavern A staple of the Bonnie Brae neighborhood, this home away from home for many Denver natives shut its doors for the last time in 2022 after 88 years. Started by Rick and Sue Dire in 1934 and run by three generations of family members, they served up American diner classics along with Mexican and Italian fare. Mostly, you went for the lively vibes and amazing pizza. Bonnie Brae never tried too hard and never had to. A good place to know, a good place to go was their understated mantra. When you showed up at 7 on Friday after a long week it seemed like you’d have to wait forever, but they always found a way to squeeze you in.
