Purr on 11th Avenue was one of Capitol Hill's most beloved gay bars — a video bar and cocktail lounge opened in 2005 by Barbie Roberts, herself a veteran of the legendary Manray. Out magazine and Out Traveler both named it one of the 200 greatest gay bars in the world. It ran for over a decade on Capitol Hill before soaring rents pushed it to Montlake in 2017, where it closed for good in 2018. The space it left behind on 11th Avenue became Queer/Bar. Some places are impossible to replace.
