The Tasty The Tasty wasn’t just in the heart of Harvard Square, it was the heart. This no-frills, 300 square foot, 12-seat diner was opened in 1916. For under three bucks you could get two eggs, fries, white toast and a fresh insult from the surly chef. Poets, professors, paupers, mechanics, musicians, intellectuals, regular Joes and Janes alike dove into the greasy fare and lively conversations. There’s no better example of the phrase they don’t make ‘em like they used to. The Tasty closed its doors for the last time in 1997.
