Jade Pagoda
Cap Hill took a big hit in 2006 when this divey institution decided to call it quits. Opened in 1943 and later run by Jimmy and Pearl Woo, it was a much-loved spot to get cheap, extremely potent drinks and a judgment-free hang. The Jade was an entertaining mix of Chinese kitsch, surly regulars, young nightlifers, random drifters, food that got the job done, and a healthy dose of good old-fashioned weird shit. In its heyday, Seattle Supersonic players would pop in for a little post-game wind down. But they’re gone. And so is the Jade. Dang, man. Pearl Woo, the true gem of the place, held on as long as she could.
