Manray | Seattle
Manray, Capitol Hill’s quirky, space-age bar, aimed to create an experience that was truly out of this world. Like stepping into a Jetsons-meets-Partridge-Family-meets-Gay-Dating-Game fever dream. With its stark, techno-deco decor and neon glow, the place buzzed with retro-futuristic vibes and an undeniable sense of concept, as if pulled straight from a Star Trek holo-deck. In one corner, a part-owner sat perched in front of a computer, curating a playlist of MTV classics from Pat Benatar to Cyndi Lauper, with occasional surprises like nude mud-wrestling clips thrown in to keep patrons on their toes. The crowd, a vibrant mix of about 80% gay men and 20% “other,” was a refreshing change from Seattle’s usual scene.
Manray’s high-tech liquor system delivered almost everything from the gun, storing spirits in mysterious vats somewhere beneath the floor. Specialty martinis ruled the menu, from the Oatmeal Cookie to the Lava Lamp and even a Smoked Salmon Martini. Like everything at Manray, they were crafted to send patrons on an unforgettable, orbit-worthy adventure.
